Tangent Fire announces Interim Fire Chief

The Tangent Rural Fire Protection District Board of Directors announced that Jim Stearns  will serve as Interim Fire Chief until the full-time Chief’s position is filled - Chief Stearns Bio

Jim joins the Fires District team December 1, as our Interim Fire Chief, he will be with us for 6 months and assist the Board with recruitment and selection of our next permanent Fire Chief.

Jim started his fire service career as a firefighter with Hermiston Fire District, he worked through the ranks at Hermiston becoming Fire Chief, a position he held for 20 years.

Following his retirement after 31 years with Hermiston, Jim became Umatilla County Emergency Manager for nearly 4 years. In 2013 he began providing Interim Chief services to fire districts throughout the state of Oregon. The Interim Chief positions have ranged from 6-18 months and have included Rogue River, Washington County Dist.2, Cannon Beach, Central Oregon Coast, Sheridan and Williams Fire Districts.

A graduate of the National Fire Academy “Executive Fire Officer” program, he has served on several Governor appointed boards and committees, been a member of state and federal wildland fire management teams, Haz Mat team, and a past paramedic.

Jim and his wife Becky have been married over 40 years, have 5 adult children and 7 grandchildren.
